A room designated for crafting is every creative’s dream. The amount of time one can spend in a craft room is limitless. That’s why staying organized is of utmost importance. It is also a place where you are able to bring all of your visions and hobbies to life. The design of the room should express that.
Here are five tips for decorating your craft room:
Choose your workspace wisely. What kind of crafting are you doing in your space? If your work requires a lot of table space, invest in a large sturdy wooden table and one or two chairs. You don’t want unnecessary furniture in the room. Ideally, you’ll be able to move about the space freely with easy access to all of your supplies. Also, take into consideration the height of your table. If you prefer standing while crafting, pick a table as high as a countertop.
Optimize your drawers and cabinets. From scrapbook paper and buttons to wrapping paper and ribbon, there are a lot of supplies that need to find a home. Keeping everything tidy and organized is key. Not only does the organization look great, but it makes everything easier to find when you’re looking for it. Use hanging dividers and drawer dividers to store papers and ribbons. Color coordinate the components inside a cabinet or drawer.
Install shelving. Fill glass jars with buttons, ribbons, and twine and place them on shelves. Line the shelves with patterned paper to give them a pop of color. Use the shelves to display completed crafts or other artwork that inspires you. Remember: drawers and cabinets can be used to hide supplies, but the shelves are your showcase.
Create stations. Some people have more than one hobby they like to do. If this is the case, you can create stations for each individual craft. For example, one corner of the room can be designated for sewing, while another can house all of your wrapping paper and gift bags. If you are tight on space, consider using an over-the-door organizer to store items for one of your crafts.
Pick a calming color. The color of the walls plays a huge part in the room’s atmosphere. You don’t want the room to feel dark and heavy. You want it to inspire! Pastel blues and greens are good choices. Or, if you have a lot of colorful crafts in the room, you may want to paint the walls white.
