Kitchen Upgrades in the New Year

Making New Year’s resolutions doesn’t have to revolve around quitting an old habit or picking up a new one. It could be as simple (and tangible) as upgrading your kitchen. Depending on how much time and effort you want to put into this task, your upgrade can be big or small. Small changes to your kitchen can make it feel more current and modern while big changes could be the facelift your home needs. Here are a few kitchen upgrades you can make in the new year:

Paint it. Has your kitchen been the same color for as long as you can remember? Maybe you hopped aboard the gray train a few years back or still have all-white everything. Now is the perfect time to make a change. Though grays and neutrals are still popular, there are a couple ways you can spice it up. Instead of choosing a beige-gray combo, try a blue-gray. Darker colors are also being welcomed into the kitchen like hunter greens, charcoals, and chocolates.

Upgrade the hardware. One of the easiest ways you can make a change to your kitchen is to switch out your hardware. Remove your old cabinet and drawer handles and pulls and replace them with something fresh. This year think leather accents, copper tones, gunmetal, and wood. Decorative hardware can add personality and texture to your kitchen in a subtle way.

Organize your cabinets/drawers. It’s not just the outside of your cabinets and drawers that can use an upgrade – it’s the inside as well. Switch out your liners with new prints or fabrics. Finally install that Lazy Susan to make accessing a caddy corner cabinet’s contents easier. Remove the doors off your cabinets all together and try the open shelving trend.

Install new countertops. Though this may seem like a daunting project, new countertops can breathe new life into your kitchen. Organic and natural elements are forever growing in popularity. Installing wood or stone countertops is one way to incorporate this trend. Marble countertops are always sleek and sophisticated. If you are trying to include different textures and tones throughout your kitchen, a new countertop is one place to try this out.

Add a backsplash. What does your backsplash look like right now? If it’s non-existent, there is no better time to add one than now. Depending on your kitchen’s aesthetic, there are many different backsplash options to choose from. Use bigger tiles to modernize the classic subway tile look. Take a risk with colored or patterned tiles. Instead, use an alternative material like wood. One rising trend is extending your backsplash beyond the bottom of the cabinets all the way to ceiling.

Channel your feelings for a fresh start in the new year by making upgrades to your kitchen. Sometimes, the goals we set for ourselves feel impossible to achieve. Making of one of those goals as simple as changing your cabinet hardware can make you feel accomplished since you’ll be able to physically see the results.
